Taboo is a word game where the words you don’t say are as important as the words you do say. In theory, the game is simple; get the people on your team to say the word at the top of as many cards as possible before the 60 second timer runs out. However, here is where simplicity ends and the fun really begins because there is a list of 5 other words on each card that you can’t say in giving your clues and if the other team who is looking over your shoulder sounds a buzzer you will not only lose a point but, your concentration as well.
You can give one word clues as well as phrases or even sentences to try and get your teammates to yell out the correct word but, be careful that you don’t inadvertently blurt out one of the taboo words. This is a great game to play at a party or that family get-together. While the kids are trying out that new video game, the adults can be enjoying a game of their own.

The only real drawback to this game is that it is not a game you would play with the younger children in your family as a little more advanced reading skills are in order. In the Celebrity version you need to get your teammates to say the given Celebrities name while being forbidden to say the words that are most associated with them. The real fun in this game comes when playing with those young enough not to have heard of most of the celebrities.
